Reach for Quality of Life |
A series of interactive performances with the theme of visions and “Quality of Life” have been built on the earlier “Vision Hunting” experiences. These performances were launched in the London Borough of Enfield in 2000. Since then the project has travelled to Mont Blanc, Modane, (France); Locarno, (Switzerland); Bielefeld, Münster, (Germany); Hamamatsu, (Japan); Brisbane, (Australia), St Petersburg, (Russia). This project aims to present a clear picture of the basic elements that make up quality of life: air, water, food, shelter, love, security, energy, communication, social acceptance, self realization. In each city the 2. meter Earth ball is rolled through the pedestrian areas, into schools, markets etc. Rolling to meet people. The ART at WORK team always works person to person with members of the public discussing “Quality of Life”. Each person’s visions are recorded directly on to the Earth ball using coloured waterproof pens. This fun, open process usually takes three days in each city. The principles of Agenda 21 form the base of these performances while the Earth ball forms a visible link between people in different parts of a city or people in different parts of the world. It carries the ideas and aspirations of one group to another. In the future all of the skins of the Earth ball will be available for exhibition together with the video and photos of the process. It is our goal to take this project to as many countries as possible in the next few years. |
